St Pauls Carnival, Bristol, 2019
The annual celebration of afro-carribean culture in Bristol. A procession with floats, dancing, feathers and costumes with RnB blaring. Colours as loud as the throbbing, sometimes painful, bass. People watching from windows and on top of walls, lining the pavements and spilling through the streets. Smells of curry goat, jerk chicken and the occasional ‘fragrant’ fumes. Soundsytems on every street, jungle, garage, reggae, drum and bass, techno. Rum Punch sold from terraced houses. The crack of Red Stripes and hiss of balloons. Families and hedonists side by side.
